About DCF

Department Computing Facility (DCF) is the centralized technical infrastructure of The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras. It hosts all the servers and provides Network connectivity to the whole  CSE department. It also has a huge 240 seater teaching lab and supports in the smooth conduct of all the lab courses offered by the department.

In addition to that, the A/V setup of the lab infrastructure helps in conducting Workshops/ FDP / Summer Schools involving external participants. Practical Tests for any recruitment activity or any admisison activity of the Department is done in the DCF.

The DCF also hosts the CSE Department Library and has a huge collection of reference books.

The DCF also runs an extension lab which is open till midnight for students to work beyond regular college hours. It has 12 systems and space for another 40+ to use their laptops to carry out their academic works.

Work from any system Support:

Everyone associated with CSE department (UG/PG/MS/PhD/Faculty/Staff) are given an unique LDAP account and a dedicated storage space on the NFS Servers. All the lab systems in DCF supports SSO and student can use their own login credentials to login to any system. The contents of their home directory (/home/<user>) are served from the NFS Server, and this helps in the student to continue their work sitting from any available lab system (including the ones present in DCF Extn Lab).

DCF is presently divided into 3 zones as follows:
Software Lab – 80 seating
Library Lab – 30 seating
Systems Lab – 140 seating
